The National Council of Australian Muslims (NCAM) expresses its deep concern over a disturbing and suspicious fire that destroyed a school bus belonging to IQRA College, an Islamic school in O’Halloran Hill, South Australia. The incident, which occurred late on Sunday night in Reynella, involved the bus being parked outside the driver’s home. The fire has been officially deemed a deliberate act by the police, with Crime Scene investigators currently examining the scene.
Alhamdulillah, no individuals were on board at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries. However, the damage to the bus has been extensive, and this act of destruction has deeply shocked and saddened both the school community and the wider Muslim community in Australia.
Sajida Salman NCAM Director, strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a targeted act of violence against the Muslim community. She stated, “We stand in solidarity with IQRA College, its staff, students, and their families during this difficult time. This act of destruction is a reminder of the need for vigilance and solidarity in our efforts to combat Islamophobia and hate in all its forms. We call on the authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure that those responsible are held fully accountable for their actions.”
The fire comes at a time when Islamophobia remains a persistent issue in Australia. While the vast majority of Australians uphold the values of respect, kindness, and understanding, there has been an alarming rise in incidents of Islamophobic attacks and vandalism targeting the Muslim community.
“We must come together as a community, not only to support IQRA College but to also send a clear message that Islamophobia and hate have no place in our society,” said Sajida. NCAM calls on anyone with information related to this incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report it online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
