NCAM Media Release regarding NCAM Media Release: Protecting Children with Autism from Counterterrorism Targeting

The National Council of Australian Muslims (NCAM) is deeply disturbed by the recent surge in anti-Semitic acts, including the targeted graffiti attacks in Perth and Sydney. The defacement of a Dalkeith residence in Western Australia with Nazi symbols and hateful slurs against Jews, along with similar incidents in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, marks a troubling escalation in racial and religious intolerance. NCAM strongly condemns these despicable acts and calls for a swift and comprehensive response from authorities.

NCAM Director, Sajida Salman, expressed her concern over the rise of such incidents, emphasizing that these attacks undermine the fabric of Australian society. “Every member of our society, regardless of race or religion, must be able to live in peace and dignity,” said Sajida. “The targeting of Jewish Australians in this manner is an affront to the values of inclusivity and respect that our nation stands for. We must stand united against all forms of hatred, including anti-Semitism, and work together to ensure such hate has no place in our communities.”

The graffiti attack in Dalkeith, featuring a swastika and deeply offensive language, is part of a disturbing pattern of hate crimes, with similar attacks reported in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Police in both states have launched investigations, with Western Australia’s Premier, Roger Cook, condemning the anti-Semitic behavior. These events come on the heels of several high-profile anti-Semitic acts across the country, including the defacement of cars and buildings and the firebombing of a synagogue. Such incidents highlight the urgent need for stronger measures to combat extremism and intolerance.

NCAM urges both state and federal authorities to take immediate and effective action in response to these hate crimes. It is crucial that all individuals, particularly vulnerable communities, are protected from the harmful effects of hate-driven violence. “We must ensure that law enforcement agencies are equipped to handle these matters swiftly and decisively,” said Sajida Salman.
