Media Release – 22 September 2025
NCAM commends Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong for taking this important step, aligning Australia with other nations in support of a two-state solution. However, recognition alone is not sufficient. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to escalate, and Palestinians are still facing a campaign of genocide, forced displacement, and the deliberate targeting of civilians by the Israeli government.
“As Muslims and as Australians, we cannot stand by while an entire community is dehumanised and brutalised” said NCAM Director Sajida Salman. “Recognition is meaningful—but it must be accompanied by real accountability. Australia must act with moral clarity and take further steps to pressure Israel to end its occupation and violations of international law.”
NCAM supports calls for the Australian Government to condemn Israeli war crimes, halt any military or financial cooperation that may enable such crimes, and consider sanctions against individuals—regardless of citizenship—who participate in or support illegal settlements or genocidal acts.
NCAM will continue to stand with the Palestinian people, and we urge the Australian Government to match its words with bold, principled action. Furthermore, NCAM urges Australia to work with international partners to push for a permanent ceasefire and the rebuilding of Gaza.
