National Council of Australian Muslims (NCAM)

The National Council of Australian Muslims (NCAM) is deeply outraged by the recent Islamophobic and anti-Palestinian graffiti incidents in Hornsby and Wiley Park. These hateful acts target Muslims, Arabs, and Palestinians with racial slurs and harmful stereotypes, violating Australian values of inclusion, respect, and coexistence. These actions foster fear and division, undermining efforts to build a united, inclusive society and highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by minority communities across the country.

Sajida Salman, NCAM Director, has strongly condemned hate speech and Islamophobia, urging that they be rejected at all levels of society. NCAM emphasized that these incidents serve as a reminder of the growing threat of anti-Muslim sentiment in Australia, both offline and online. “We must unite against racism and intolerance,” Salman stated, calling on Australians to stand together and support affected communities. NCAM also urges authorities to thoroughly investigate these hate crimes and ensure that the perpetrators face justice.

The NSW Police have classified the graffiti as a hate crime, which further undermines social cohesion and poses a risk of inciting violence. These acts of vandalism are part of a broader pattern of Islamophobia and racial hatred, threatening peace and eroding social harmony. NCAM calls on political leaders and law enforcement to take swift, decisive action to protect our communities and uphold the values of unity and respect.

NCAM stands in solidarity with the Muslim, Palestinian, and Arab communities targeted by these hateful acts. These incidents underscore the urgent need for stronger measures to combat Islamophobia and all forms of racism. “Freedom of expression should never be used to incite hate or violence,” Sajida added. NCAM urged Australians to report hate crimes and work collectively to combat discrimination, fostering an inclusive society where all individuals are respected and valued.
