The National Council of Australian Muslims (NCAM) today called on the Australian Government to immediately halt all arms shipments to Israel. This urgent plea follows a damning report by Amnesty International, which concluded that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Amnesty International’s report, titled “You Feel Like You Are Subhuman: Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza,” details a pattern of systematic violence, including killings, severe injury, and deliberate deprivation of essential resources. The organization asserts that these actions constitute genocide under international law.

NCAM Director Sajida Salman emphasized the gravity of the situation: “Amnesty International’s unequivocal condemnation of Israel’s actions as genocide should serve as a wake-up call to the international community. The Australian Government must take immediate action to prevent further complicity in these atrocities.”

Sajida further stressed the historical significance of this moment: “Future generations will judge us on our response to this crisis. We must choose to stand against genocide and demand accountability for Israel’s crimes.”

NCAM’s call for an arms embargo aligns with growing international scrutiny of Israel’s actions. The Norwegian wealth fund’s recent decision to divest from an Israeli company involved in illegal settlements in the West Bank underscores the increasing global pressure on Israel to adhere to international law.

As the international community grapples with the implications of Israel’s alleged genocide, NCAM urges the Australian Government to prioritize human rights and justice by ending all support for Israel’s military actions.
